Firefox iTunes U Authorization

By default, Firefox 1.0 and 1.5 aren't sure what to do with iTunes U web addresses. You need to teach it the proper way to handle these addresses before you can connect.

This is particularly important when browsing with the Macintosh version of these earlier Firefox browsers, which will pop up an unusable dialogue box when trying to access iTunes U for the first time.This is what the dialogue box looks like on a Windows machine:

To teach Firefox how to work with iTunes, you need to click on the two iTunes U links below and then follow these steps:

  1. A dialogue box called "External Protocol Request" pops up and says that "an external application must be launched ..."
  2. Check the "Remember my choice for all links of this type" and then click the "Launch application" button.:

If you receive a pop-up message that says "We could not complete your iTunes Store request" (see image below) after clicking on one of these links, then your computer already knows what to do with iTunes links, and does not need to be trained.
